#COED Place for You Community Woodland Dee Park Project and Job Vacancies

September 30th, 2021

Care & Repair (North East Wales) Ltd are about to start an exciting new project on the former Shotton Steel Works Sports Club site.  Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to support the development of the 35-acre site, including sports fields and the adjoining Dee Park and woodland to provide a community hub for Deeside that we call ‘Place for You’.

The project will create a community woodland on 11.10 hectares of land at Dee Park adjoining the Dee Estuary and North Wales Coastal Path, planting 3500 young trees and 500 m of hedgerow which will link into and restore the existing mature woodland.

The project will enhance the biodiversity of the site, creating new areas of woodland and hedgerow, and restoring some areas of mature woodland.  We will create wildlife corridors, create wildflower meadows, and, by the creation of a pathway around the site, offer an accessible and welcoming green space for recreation and education.
